Frequently Asked Questions
FAQS
What are your areas of expertise?
I specialize in individual and family therapy with children and adolescents between the ages of 6-19 with a wide variety of emotional and behavioral concerns. I also offer therapy services to parents and other caregivers who may need support with co-parenting and/or other parenting-related issues. Some of the areas I provide treatment for include, but are not limited to:
anxiety or fear/phobias, depression, sexual abuse, physical abuse, witnessing domestic violence, exposure to a traumatic event, life transitions, grief/loss, self-harming behaviors (ex: cutting), parental divorce, communication issues/social skills, peer-relationship issues, self-esteem, stress reduction, problematic sexual behaviors, parenting skills/co-parenting challenges.
Do you accept insurance and/or offer a sliding scale payment option?
I am currently in the process of becoming paneled with various insurance companies and will update my website once approved. At this time, I accept Cigna, Oscar Health, United Healthcare, Oxford, and Aetna. If you choose not to use insurance, therapy sessions are private pay by Ivypay and my rate is $125 per therapy hour. At this time I do offer a limited number of income-based sliding scale payment options which we can discuss during your free phone consultation.
Private pay clients can provide payment through cash, check, or IvyPay.
Do you offer Telehealth?
Yes. One of my main priorities is ensuring my clients feel comfortable and safe during sessions and therefore offer options for both in-person and Telehealth sessions.
What will therapy be like?
Therapy is not "one-size fits all." As each client comes to therapy for different reasons, treatment is tailored to the individual need and will look different for each person. During the first session (intake) I will meet with just the caregiver to discuss history, current events, family dynamics, presenting symptoms, and goals for treatment. The intake appointment will last approximately 60-minutes. Each session following the intake appointment will be provided in the form of one-on-one individual therapy sessions with the child/adolescent and will last 50-minutes. It is expected for each client to attend therapy weekly but this can be discussed further during intake to determine if bi-weekly is more appropriate.
How can a therapist help me?
There are times in life when we all need a little bit of extra support. It can be hard to navigate the challenges of childhood, adolescence, and parenting alone, and as your therapist, I can help you to feel more confident and empowered. Therapists can help provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues that are impacting your daily functioning. The benefits of therapy depend on how well you use the process and put into practice what you/your child learns.
Tell me more about yourself.
I am passionate about providing a space for children and adolescents to feel supported and heard. It is important for them to have a place that is their own as they navigate their individuation process. I hold a non-biased and affirming space for healing as I support each client's individual therapeutic journey. My therapeutic approach values differences in cultures, religions, sexual orientations, gender identities, family make-up, bodies and abilities. I am a culturally sensitive therapist who respects and values cultural diversity and the impacts of systemic injustices on individuals. I engage in ongoing trainings to continue to enhance my level of cultural competency as a therapist. I utilize mindfulness based practices along with creative tools such as art to enhance the therapeutic process. Some of the other modalities I utilize include cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and Circle of Security. The therapeutic process truly is a partnership, where together we will decide the pace, structure, and forms of expression that best suit your child or adolescent's needs. I look forward to connecting with you.
